One dish at a time.

Charito by Bag of Beans: Dining with a View

Tagaytay is always a nice escape from the busy city of Manila. The wind is fresh and the views are nice (although the traffic can get reaaally awful at times!). We go here a lot for staycations or simply to just eat while enjoying the scenery. There are a lot of restaurants to go to and the more popular ones make use of the cold/fresh air and the view of Taal Volcano to entice their customers. Opened in 2016, one of the restaurants that’s been getting a lot of publicity lately is Charito by Bag of Beans. It’s a short drive away from the more popular Balay Dako, and as the name implies, was founded by the same people behind Bag of Beans (a popular cafe with multiple branches in Tagaytay).

When we go to Tagaytay for a meal, we usually leave the city as early as we can… around 8-9AM to avoid the traffic, since while Tagaytay is fantastic, the traffic is downright notorious. We arrive in Tagaytay at a little past 10AM, just in time for brunch. Charito has a wide menu, from breakfast, brunch, drinks, and desserts. I ordered the Beef Tapa which comes with atsara and 2 eggs, cooked as how you request it. The tapa was sweet and went well with vinegar, and had crunchy fried onions. Quite filling!

I also ordered the Coffee Choco Banana — a drink which I am obsessed with. It’s not overly sweet and the banana blends well with the chocolate. I always finish it even before the food comes, hehe.

Another dish that we thoroughly enjoyed is the Pork Sisig. It comes with a generous amount of chicharon and is spicy. Definitely one of the best sisigs we’ve tried. The serving is big and oily (as sisig normally is, lol), but we never fail to order it… even if we’re supposed to be there for a ‘light brunch’.

The Gambas Al Ajillo is not as spicy as I prefer, but it has a buttery tomato taste and the prawns are juicy.

Charito has indoor and outdoor seating and has a nice view of Taal Lake. Most people who come here request for a table outside, so the wait time can get quite long. If you don’t prefer to sit outside, then you can get a seat faster.
