4 Rice Bowls in Singapore You Should Try

I love tasty rice bowls, and it’s quite lucky that Singapore isn’t lacking when it comes to restaurants that serve good ones. These meals are straightforward and filling. Chefs have their own way of fixing a rice bowl, but usually you’re handed a bowl of rice topped with a generous amount of meat (I love getting beef or chicken), a side-dish such as pickles or a sous vide egg, and other stuff to add to the taste such as truffles (!!!), roasted garlic, or spring onions. The types of rice bowls I love are those which don’t skimp out on the meat and rice, and has a lot of flavor. Continue reading to see 4 (out of a looot) places in Singapore that serve rice bowls!

Tanuki Raw

Tanuki Raw currently has two branches, one in the National Design Centre and the other on Orchard. Their Truffle Yakiniku (14.90 SGD) is one of the more popular rice bowls in Singapore. With fresh truffle (like the image above), the dish costs 22 SGD. It comes with furikake rice and a sous vide egg. They also have another variation which comes with a heaping serving of foie gras, which I can’t finish without feeling like my arteries will clog up, lol. The queue is usually long so be prepared to wait for a while if you come during a popular time.

Grilllo is one of the stalls in PasarBella, a food court found in Suntec City. The above picture is their Truffle Short Rib Bowl, which costs 14.90 SGD. It’s topped with roasted garlic and egg. The sauce on the meat is pretty nice. Additionally, Pasarbella has a lot of stalls to choose from so there are a lot of other options if your companions want sushi, seafood, tacos, etcetera. Aside from the short rib, they also have salmon, pork, and chicken.

The only place on this list that’s located in a hawker center, Angmo Food is an affordable choice and is located in Ang Mo Kio. They offer Western Rice Bowls, with the Angus Beef Rice Bowl (pictured above) costing 7.90 SGD. Their rice bowls come with a protein of your choice, Sweet Corn, Sauteed cabbage & Butter Garlic Rice. They also have other unique and interesting dishes such as charcoal-battered fish & chips.

Waa Cow! Sushi Bar

Waa Cow! Sushi Bar is a place we just recently tried, and it’s really good! I tried the Spicy Mentaiko Wagyu Beef bowl (22 SGD). It’s a bit on the pricier side but it was delicious enough, besides, it’s good grade wagyu. It came with wasabi as well, which added a lot of flavor, in addition to the spicy mentaiko. The meat itself was tender and even if eaten with wasabi and mentaiko still had a dominant flavor to it. Waa! Cow has a lot of items to choose from and the staff are quite nice and accommodating. We went to the branch in Raffles Xchange during the weekday lunch hour, so of course we had to queue up for a while before getting a seat.
